If there’s one game series that I just can’t get enough of, it’s Uncharted. The single-player and multiplayer in Uncharted 2 were as good as it gets when it comes to video games and I would say Uncharted 2 was not only the best game of 2009, but of all time. Uncharted 2 got most of its praise for the amazing single-player that critics instantly fell in love with, but the multiplayer never seemed to get as much attention, which is a damn shame, because the multiplayer was even more fun than the single-player. All the features from the single-player campaign were transferred over to classic 5 vs. 5 multiplayer game modes and the experience was like Gears of War online, but with the added ability to climb almost any wall and fight on multi-tiered maps. Unfortunately, we live in a Call of Duty age, and while I like the Call of Duty series online, games like Modern Warfare 2 come nowhere close to Uncharted 2.
Now, after the dust has finally started to settle on all of their Game of the Year rewards from 2009, Naughty Dog has begun revealing all the details about the multiplayer for the upcoming sequel Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and it’s clear that they’re not playing around. The most recent wave of news explains in detail how much more Uncharted 3‘s multiplayer will offer over the last game. There will be tons of brand new features that other big name multiplayer games feature like character and weapon customization, player decals and emblems, and the ability to login as a guest and play two player split-screen with a friend. In addition to all the new features that you might find in other online games, Uncharted 3 will also have tons of improvements and brand new features that will be unique to the Uncharted series, most notably is the idea of dynamic maps with layouts that completely change during the middle of a match.
One of my favorite parts of the single-player campaign was the level where you were able to jump from truck to truck, all in real time. The fact that we’ll get to see that feature in multiplayer and in 3D, has me more than excited and counting the days until the beta. Uncharted 3‘s beta starts 6-28-11 with the full version of the game scheduled for release on 11-1-11.
