In a boring weekend at the domestic box office, moviegoers continued to feed holdovers from last weekend, leaving the extended Thanksgiving week’s top five nearly intact. This means The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, the fifth and final film of the fantasy romance series, joined The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and The Hunger Games as the only films this year to three-peat at the domestic box office. Twilight edged out James Bond movie Skyfall, the 23rd film in the longest running franchise in cinematic history.
The difference between third and fourth was even slimmer. After a weak debut last week, DreamWorks Animation’s CGI 3D family film Rise of the Guardians rose to the podium, displacing Steven Spielberg’s biopic Lincoln, which finished just ahead of Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. This left newcomers Killing Them Softly and The Collection way out of the top five, which you can check out below via BOM:
- The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 — Weekend Gross: $17.4 million — Total Gross: $254.6 million (#1 last week)
- Skyfall — Weekend Gross: $16.6 million — Total Gross: $245.6 million (#2 last week)
- Rise of the Guardians — Weekend Gross: $13.39 million — Total Gross: $48.8 million (#4 last week)
- Lincoln — Weekend Gross: $13.38 million — Total Gross: $83.6 million (#3 last week)
- Life of Pi — Weekend Gross: $12.2 million — Total Gross: $48.5 million (#5 last week)
