After the post-credits stinger and the huge box office success of Thor, it wasn’t a question of if we’d see a sequel, but when. Today, Marvel and Disney have announced that Thor 2 is set for release on July 26, 2013 with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the God of Thunder. Although Hemsworth is confirmed to be coming back, Natalie Portman is still up in the air, and director Kenneth Branagh has been confirmed to not be directing the sequel, just like he didn’t direct the scene after the credits setting up the next film.
With Disney/Marvel releasing two big superhero films each summer, Thor and Captain America this year, and now Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 in 2013, it leaves the question: What superhero movie will we see hit theaters next summer alongside The Avengers? And more importantly, who will be directing Thor 2?
