The Metal Gear franchise just keeps getting weirder and weirder. With the sword-slashing and oddly named Revengeance set for release in a couple months and a visually stunning next-gen prequel, everyone is still wondering what’s going on with Metal Gear Solid 5. And although the crazy debut trailer of The Phantom Pain at this year’s VGAs only served up even more questions for fans, all signs seem to point to it being MGS5 for next-gen consoles.
It’s still unclear who exactly all the characters in the trailer are and why the hell there’s a giant helicopter-eating whale on fire (most likely a dream or drug-induced), but some savvy fans have already been getting their CSI on and besides all the similarities between characters to previous Metal Gear games, the clearest piece of evidence comes in the subtle way The Phantom Pain‘s title at the start of the trailer has some parts of letters missing and extended lines which almost perfectly aligns with a Metal Gear Solid 5 logo.
