It’s pretty strange for a game developer to announce nothing about its latest game’s upcoming multiplayer modes until one week before the game’s release, but when you’re Naughty Dog and crank out hits like Uncharted, you can do whatever you want. And judging by the recent wave of perfect scores leaking out, the latest demo available to anyone with God of War: Ascension, and this new trailer, it’s looking like the wait is going to be well worth it.
The Last of Us‘ multiplayer, which you can get a first look at below, looks to be a unique mix of styles taken from Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption, and DayZ. Gameplay looks to be most like Uncharted, but with far more intense player vs. player combat involving far less bullets and tons of blunt objects to give your enemies the beatdown with. The multiplayer also looks to take a page out of RDR‘s book by allowing players to form clans and a page out of DayZ‘s book by making players scavenge for items and create them in the middle of combat.
While no zombies seem to be present in the current game modes, it’s likely that we’ll start seeing new DLC modes with Clickers introduced via the season pass that will deliver constant new content like what Naughty Dog has done with Uncharted 3.
The Last of Us will hit store shelves on June 14, one day after all of the craziness of E3.
