Team Fortress 2 Now Free To Download and Play

Valve Switches Up Their Model to Bring in More Microtransactions

June 27, 2011 by

With the exception of the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta that starts this Tuesday, there’s not going to be much in terms of new games to play come July and most of August. But the Uncharted beta is only for two weeks and then the real gaming drought begins. To get you through rough times, Valve has just made their hit first-person shooter Team Fortress 2 free… that’s right, FREE!

In an effort to bring in more micro-transactions through the in-game store, Valve has made Team Fortress 2 available to download via Steam for free to anyone who owns a PC or MAC. The only fees are for additional in-game items such as goofy hats and new weapons for your character, but those items are completely optional and you can still enjoy the entire game free of charge without having to buy anything.

I didn’t have a gaming PC back when Team Fortress 2 was first released in 2007 and I’ve always wanted to get into the game; with the game now free, there’s no excuse not to play. Now I only need an excuse for why I show up to work late tomorrow after playing TF2 all night.
