Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed at Sony’s E3 2018 Showcase

Capcom Shocks Us with a First-Look at Updated HD Gameplay of the 1998 Classic

June 18, 2018 by

Although many watching PlayStation’s E3 2018 media briefing were hoping for Final Fantasy VII to make its first appearance since Sony teased it back in 2015, Capcom and Sony surprised viewers with another remake that nobody was expecting, Resident Evil 2.

Like FF7, Capcom originally revealed that they were working on the remake years ago, but since then, we haven’t seen or heard anything regarding the game. But at this year’s show, not only did Capcom give us a first look at the game, but they also had a playable demo on the show floor.

With the recent terrible trend of so many ‘remastered’ versions of games being released only a few years after their first launch — and at times even more problems than the originals. With RE2 now 22 years old, it’s one of the rare cases of a remake that could easily justify its existence from what we’re seeing in its first look.

Many Resident Evil fans consider the HD Remake of the original RE to be the best game in the series with how much it improved upon the 1996’s classic horror game. So there’s a lot riding on Capcom’s complete update of Resident Evil 2 that looks like it may just live up to the hype.

In the first look at gameplay, you can see completely updated character and camera movements, new HD textures and cutscenes, and even new gameplay mechanics such as the flashlight that helps make the classic horror games scary once again.

Resident Evil 2‘s Remake is set for release in January on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
