Priest Review

Cinematic Blasphemy

May 19, 2011 by

The crucifixion of last yearโ€™s Legion apparently wasnโ€™t enough because out of its ashes has arisen its resurrection, Priest. Not sinful enough to be considered a guilty pleasure even for the horror and sci-fi faithful, Priest takes place in an unholy union of รผber-Catholic dystopian cities and Old West-style outskirts, where vampiric tribes live on reservations or hide in underground hives.

While the film offers some cool creature design and visually appealing sets that showcase its graphic novel roots, everything you need to see is already in the trailer.

The 3D, much like that of Thorโ€™s (review here), is unspectacular, probably because it was converted from 2D as a Hail Mary to pump some additional blood money into revenues. The result is only slightly better than director Scott Stewart and Paul Bettanyโ€™s previous collaboration, Legion, which isnโ€™t saying much. Unless you watch all vampire movies religiously, I pray that you excommunicate yourself from this cinematic blasphemy. Priest gets 2 out of 5 stars or OK or C.
