Going into Microsoft’s 2017 Media Briefing, Anthem was our most anticipated new game to see at their event. Just one day prior, EA had revealed the new IP and teased that the official full reveal would be at Microsoft. And as you can see in the first look at gameplay for BioWare’s new IP, what was shown did not disappoint.
Closing out the 2017 Xbox Briefing at E3, Anthem could best be described as EA’s answer to Activision’s Destiny. A brand new third-person multiplayer game in a futuristic setting where players have access to fully-customizable exosuits like Iron Man. And best of all, the Javelin suits also serve as a means of flying and quickly exploring the vast sci-fi open-world in search for epic loot.
In the short preview of the game, BioWare showed off the spectacular storm weather effects and how teammates can seamlessly jump in and out of games together – which while looking amazing, felt an awfully lot like Ubisoft’s 2014 “gameplay” presentation for The Division. Let’s hope that Anthem doesn’t turn out the same, which many are fearing after the past couple games from BioWare haven’t lived up to the hype.
Despite being shown last as Microsoft’s E3 2017 Briefing to showcase the power of the Xbox One X, Anthem is set for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC sometime in 2018.
