2011 was undoubtedly the best year ever for new video game releases, but it could have been even better if it weren’t for Mass Effect 3 being delayed into 2012. Mass Effect 3 was pushed back to not compete with EA and BioWare’s other massive franchise, Star Wars: The Old Republic; and while The Old Republic might have been our pick for 2011’s Game of the Year, Mass Effect 3 looks far better in terms of visuals, story, and gameplay.
To keep players around after they’ve finished the third game’s epic campaign, BioWare has added multiplayer to the Mass Effect universe and is showing it off in their latest trailer. Fans seem to be split whenever multiplayer is added to epic singleplayer-only games, but based on the trailer below, BioWare looks like they know what they’re doing, and it’s going to add a whole new level of awesomeness to one of the best series of all time. Mass Effect 3 is set for release in a little more than a month on March 6, 2012. It’s going to be interesting to see if BioWare’s other RPG, SWTOR, holds up after completing ME3’s campaign and if ME3‘s multiplayer is enough to keep players around.
