Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios is officially done, and the potential future Hall of Famer has said to have lost $50 million of his own money that he invested in the company. Now with Schilling and his failed company in bankruptcy court, the launch trailer for the game that 38 Studios was developing simultaneously with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has leaked via an anonymous email to Kotaku. Called “Project Copernicus,” 38 Studios had planned to launch the game as a massive multiplayer online role-playing game spin-off.
Reckoning and Copernicus‘ high production costs mixed with poor business decisions and far too high expectations for the studio’s debut game is why Copernicus will stay as 38’s “project” forever and never see the light of day. The trailer below is very well done and teases 38 Studios’ take on a World of Warcraft-style open-world MMO that might have been just a little too close to what gamers already have in WoW and probably wouldn’t have met expectations either like Amalur.
Check out the trailer and let us know what you think. Is it too similar looking to WoW, or would you have been interested in Schilling’s MMO despite the similarities?
