Microsoft has been teasing new live-action Halo movies and TV shows for some time now. Not to be confused with the TV show Steven Spielberg is still working on, Halo: Nightfall is another digital Halo project that will come bundled with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One later this year.
While Nightfall doesn’t have Spielberg, it does have another sci-fi film industry vet, Ridley Scott, whose influence can easily be seen with Prometheus-inspired visuals all throughout this first trailer.
Halo‘s franchise development director Frank O’Connor explained to fans at Comic-Con that Nightfall takes place in part on a “partially functioning fragment of the original Halo ring,” which has crashed to a colony planet. Halo 5: Guardians‘ lead protagonist, Jameson Locke, will also be the star of Nightfall and played by Mike Colter (The Good Wife). Check out the full synopsis below:
Halo: Nightfall introduces a pivotal new character, Jameson Locke, a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Earth’s most powerful and secretive military branch. When he and his team are caught in a horrific biological attack, they unravel a plot that draws them to an ancient, hellish artifact, where they will be forced to fight for their survival, question everything, and ultimately choose between their loyalties and their lives.
