With Scott returning to the sci-fi genre, many are speculating that this could in fact be a prequel to his 1979 classic Alien. But those who have been working on the film have been able to the keep the secret under wraps thus far and even with a trailer and synopsis, it’s still not clear what this movie is about besides the generic explorers-traveling-to-another-planet-and-making-a-discovery plot.

Check out the first official trailer for Prometheus below, which is set for release in 3D on June 8, 2012, and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.
