Best Buy is introducing a new mobile application that encourages moviegoers to use their phones during the end credits of the upcoming film Despicable Me. The new application called the “Minionator” allows users to put their phone in what Best Buy is calling “Movie Mode” in order to gain access to extras during the end credits of the movie. The Minionator is available on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices and will function as a translator during the end credits of Despicable Me which will provide a text translation of the minion characters’ dialogue. Introducing the Best Buy Movie Mode app:
the only mobile app that syncs with the movie screen to give you a one-of-a-kind experience. Use the Best Buy Movie Mode Minionator app to translate every hilarious word the Minions are saying during the 3D end credits of Despicable Me, and unlock even more exclusive content after the show.
When you enter the theater:
1. Put your phone into silent mode.
2. Start the application and enter Movie Mode.
3. Enjoy a whole new experience during the end credits.CAN I REALLY USE MY PHONE IN THE THEATER?
Because this has been designed to work in the theater, you don’t need to worry about upsetting other moviegoers. At the end of the film, the app will automatically exit Best Buy Movie Mode and unlock new exclusive features in the Extras section.
WHAT ELSE?
Since Best Buy Movie Mode is designed to work with Despicable Me in Digital 3D, there’s a locator that can help you find a Digital 3D theater nearby, (and of course the nearest Best Buy).
After using the Minionator in the theater, you’ll unlock a completely new section of Best Buy Movie Mode, including exclusive content from Despicable Me and Best Buy.
