Marvel’s first trailer for Captain America: Civil War is starting off literally right where Ant-Man left off last summer.
For those who still haven’t seen Ant-Man, you might want to do that before continuing to read this article or watching the first official Civil War trailer… you’ve been warned.
As those who stuck around after the credits of Ant-Man know, Captain America (aka Steve Rogers) and Falcon showed up at the last minute to reveal that they’ve apprehended the Winter Soldier (aka Bucky Barnes). Barnes, who was the villain in the last Captain America film, of course started as Rogers’ best friend in the first film, and Civil War will be focusing on the drama that unfolds when the Captain goes against Tony Stark (Iron Man) in an effort to rehabilitate his friend, who still could be a threat to the Avengers. Here’s an official synopsis:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016. Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winder Soldier) will be returning as directors, along with stars Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman. Meanwhile, Thor and Hulk will be sitting this one out (maybe a post-credits cameo?) and will have their own buddy adventure film in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
