While 2011 was filled with tons of games that lived up to their hype and helped create one of the most memorable years in gaming history, there were also some games that weren’t exactly bad, but failed to live up to our expectations and in turn have been deemed our biggest disappointments. But there can only be one in this battle of what could have been and this award goes to the man, the myth, the legend, Duke Nukem himself. After 10 years in development hell Duke Nukem Forever was finally released this year and while there might have been a ton of games that were worse, none of which had as big of a build up as Duke’s what seemed like forever development. There was no way Forever could ever live up to the hype its historic development cycle created, but it came nowhere close to being anywhere near as good as the original and only hurt the iconic franchise with outdated graphics and load times that seemed to take forever. Hopefully the next time we see Mr. Nukem it won’t take as long and won’t be as big of a disappointment. “Winner”: Duke Nukem Forever.
