This year’s biggest gaming battle went down between big budget shooters Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, but we’re not talking sales numbers here, we’re talking about which shooter was the overall best. Released at the start of the year and left off many best-of lists because of it, our favorite shooter this year was Dead Space 2. While it might not have featured as many guns or have sold as many copies as other shooters this year, Dead Space 2‘s perfect aiming controls and gruesome gameplay that forced players to strategically dismember foes is all we could ever want from a shooter. Dead Space 2 was bigger and better than the original and introduced a brand new pulse-pounding multiplayer mode that allowed the punting of alien babies and decapitation of alien children. Your mom might hate Dead Space 2, but we loved it, so much so that we’re giving it our favorite shooter of 2011. Winner: Dead Space 2.
