Another year, another Batman game, and another epic CGI trailer that contains no actual gameplay footage to get gamers’ expectations higher than they probably should be.
WB Games is sticking to the same old format year after year, and if they’re not careful, the once highly praised Arkham series is going to quickly turn into the next Internet bashing title among the likes of other heavily milked franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed.
The good news out of all of this is of course that the original developers who started the Arkham series, Rocksteady, are back. Even better news is that Arkham Knight will ONLY be on next-gen systems (PS4, Xbox One, PC) later this year, so development on the game won’t be held back by old technology and has hopefully allowed Rocksteady to let loose and really make some big changes.
Check out the official description below to what’s said to be the “finale” of the Arkham series:
In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady’s uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City. Be The Batman.
