Super 8 debuted at No. 1 in the domestic weekend box office, bumping X-Men: First Class to second place. Although Super 8‘s opening gross of $35.5 million is far behind those of many recent blockbusters, strong reviews (ours included) should give it some staying power as The Green Lantern opens this week. As expected last week, both Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Hangover: Part II overtook the cumulative gross of Fast Five as they crossed the $200 million mark.
